Chamberlains is a South African hardware store operating since 1903, with a focus on building material, hardware and home improvement needs.
User experience strategy, interior design concept, technical documentation, signage and branding Implementation co-ordination, project management, procurement, compliance.
We were appointed to design their 8th store in Strubens Valley store after successfully being involved with their previous three. Chamberlain traditionally a ‘trade’ hardware supplier, entered the DIY market in 2005, and as a family run business has built their differentiation on solution focused customer service and relationships.
The design of the store is intended to maintain the heritage as a supplier to the small construction trade, whilst offering an easy to navigate, informative DIY retail environment. Each major category is anchored with a service counter, which is easy accessible and has a clear line of sight of the trading floor. The high level internal façade is wrapped with a timeline info graphic reinforcing the heritage of the brand in the hardware trade.
